8 am – I arrive at our office in Boom and before sitting down at one of our hot desks, I glance around the warehouse to see how hard my colleagues are at work already to get everything to the Delhaize distribution centre today. This picture is a bit blurred because we can never really show our operations out in the open. If you want to see our warehouse in real life, you will have to apply first 😉
8.10 am – First things first: coffee! Once I have settled in and my laptop is on, I get myself a coffee. Fuel in order to start the day!
10 am – After following up on my emails, I head to the kitchen. There are always some healthy fresh fruit and vegetables. It's my lucky day today, as there's also a treat from a colleague whose birthday it is today!
11 am – Then it's time to get down to an operational buyer’s main tasks: to follow up on shop orders, check our stock in Boom, and place additional orders or reduce orders based on forecasts.
Noon – Time for a brisk walk with some colleagues. We have a Teams walking group where we post who wants to walk when during our lunch break. Our regular walk lasts about 35 minutes. It takes you outside, allows you to achieve your daily number of steps and prepares you to get right back to it in the afternoon! Spoiler: my colleagues didn't want to be included in the picture.
3 pm – I leave in time to pick up my son from school. Flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of working at Bakker!
Before I leave, I make sure I don't forget to check what was put on the presentation table that day. Employees get to take those products home. There are some delicious kiwis today!
3.05 pm – I hop on my bike. See you tomorrow, Bakker!
4 pm – Picked up my son on time, gave him an afternoon snack and while he and our dog chill after a tiring day, I process a few more emails that have arrived in the past hour.
5 pm – I close my laptop and give my family my full attention now. Tomorrow is another day!
