Strategic issues

Tom M en Pieter

In addition to providing our customer with the best fruit and vegetables on a daily basis, there are also a number of strategic issues within our organisation that we tackle in the form of projects. And that is where our PMO team comes in. Together with other involved teams, the team of project leaders and project staff work on strategic projects within Bakker. Examples include the innovation of packagings, the integration of new ranges, ICT issues, infrastructure and sustainability.

The PMO team organises the projects from start to finish, ensuring the most efficient flow, assuming a coordinating role and making sure tight deadlines are respected. Within a project all individuals involved are assigned a specific role. As project manager our role focuses less on content although we certainly don’t hesitate to share our perspectives. Our project managers have broad interests, equally enjoying tackling a complex IT project as they do working on setting up a new line for soft fruit, for example.  To them structure is far from boring; on the contrary, it’s what they strive for. Drawing up step-by-step plans, overseeing tasks and managing budgets. They love it!

Lean six sigma
Improvement is in our blood at Bakker. And we do it ‘lean’, meaning we systematically eliminate obstacles in the process. This ranges from transport to talent management or overproduction. This method (Lean Six Sigma) enables us to achieve sustainable and measurable improvements. With a lean toolbox we help the department involved to improve the business processes.

It’s wonderful to work together with all departments to make Bakker Belgium even better than it is today.
